By the way Compactor MachineFor those of you who are still new to the world of construction projects, maybe you will wonder a little. Of course the Compactor Machine will be related to the Compaction Process. Then what is the definition of Compaction This? We often see them on the streets of construction projects, where there are many other heavy machinery equipment.
Compaction in Indonesian means compaction. Of course in this case is the compaction process in construction work.
Compaction is an artificial and mechanical process to rapidly reduce the volume of soil by removing air voids in the soil resulting in increased density.
Soil compaction also occurs naturally due to consolidation of the foundation soil with the release of water in the soil pores due to the load from the structure. This is a longer process compared to compaction.
In this article, I will only discuss the definition of Compaction itself, not Consolidation. Some things that we must know and understand before we use a Roller Compactor Machine, are as follows:
- Artificial processes caused by mechanical devices such as tandem rollers.
- The decrease in volume and increase in density of the soil occurs due to the expulsion of air from the voids.
- Compaction occurs in partially saturated soils.
- Compaction is completed in a matter of minutes and is therefore a short-term process.
- Compaction is effective on graded soils, both containing gravel and sand, and to a lesser extent on lakes and clays.
- Compaction is caused by short-term dynamic loads, which are eliminated after compaction.
At low moisture content, the soil becomes stiff and the particles are difficult to close together. This process will result in a low dry density. As the moisture content increases, the water forms a lubricating layer around the particles causing them to compact to a closer contact state resulting in a higher dry density. Dry density increases as the moisture content increases until maximum dry density (MDD) is reached.
